Fall is "A Spectacular Time of Year" for Stowe's Bikes & Brews Tours

09/19/2017 05:56PM ● By Melanie Heisinger
Nearly 20 years ago, Rick Sokoloff co-founded the Stowe Mountain Bike Club and spent the next two decades building 50 miles of trail before heading up the mountain biking program at Smuggler’s Notch Resort. Three years ago, he decided to bring his knowledge of bike trails to locals and visitors alike by creating 4 Points VT, a mountain bike school and guide service that now has an extra perk: brewery tours.

During a “Bike and Brew” with the 4 Points Brewery Tour, riders spend three hours learning and looping around Trapp Family Lodge in the morning, followed by a quick change for lunch at Trapp’s and then a flight of beer at five different local breweries. The $189 also includes appetizers and pick up and drop off at Stowe Hotel.

“The fresh air and cool days, the, beauty of nature — it’s a spectacular time of year, when, breweries are also coming out with the fall selections,” says Sokoloff, who points to some of these suds that those on a tour might taste (Hill Farmstead Brewery, Prohibition Pig, Ten Bends Brewery, Stowe Cider and Green Mountain Distillery might also be one of the five stops):

  • Rock Art Brewery: 20th anniversary IPA, Twin Tip, VT Spruce Stout (with fresh spruce tips and pumpkin), Vermonster
  • Alchemist: Poppy's Porter (“lower alcohol and very smooth and hoppy porter”) Beezlebub hoppy stout
  • Trapp Brewery: Octoberfest (“slightly sweet seasonal amber ale, easy drinking!”), Dunkel (“little darker, easy drinking dark lager)
  • Idletyme Brewery: Octoberfest or Marzen (“seasonal and easy to drink amber ale”), Vanilla Porter (“a delicious porter with a hint of vanilla”)
  • Lost Nation Brewery: Octoberfest (“seasonal and easy drinking amber ale), Rustic Ale (“hoppy amber beer and easy to drink”), Pitch Black Ale (“easy drinking black ale”)
